Did you ever get a response to your question?  I am interested because I'm about to go the other way (from integer to byte 24) and would like to know a way to back out if necessary.

I'm also somewhat interested as to why you are going from byte 24 to integer?

BTW, if you didn't get a response, another place to try would be the FB list...
