After spending a couple of months in Forced Maven Camp, I tend to agree on that point (being a "convention over configuration"-kind of guy). Yes, Maven looks a little daunting at first, but once you get used to it (which happens fast), life gets pretty good. Want to use a jar file? Just add a couple of lines to your pom. Want to upgrade 3rd party jar files automatically when a new releases is made? Use wildcards in minor version numbers.
Not to mention you get a ton of free functionality and plugins for the build and testing processes - it's what happens when you standardize stuff.
All in all, it's pretty sweet.
