Yeap, and depending on the platform, you may need to raise some of the kernel parameters. There are some pages on the manual that explain that, like <http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.0/interactive/kernel-resources.html> or <http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.0/interactive/runtime-config-resource.html>.

There's also a neat little app that I found handy to check table contents during development: BiggerSQL.
