I attended SecondConf this weekend and Brian Boyer from the Chicago Tribune mentioned this in his talk.

Bees with machine guns is a script that spawns a configurable number of temporary EC2 instances and has them hammer on a given site for load testing.
A cute idea, and possible applicable to WO devs.
