How to get maximum of a column in oracle by using EOQualifier

Dear All,
 
I need maximum value of empid  (" max(empid) " ) in employee table.
can any one help me to get max number by using EOQualifier.
my code like this
 
EOQualifier qualifier = EOQualifier.qualifierWithQualifierFormat("max(empid)",null);
 
but it is giving error..
can any one suggest what exactly to be...
