The only advice I can give though with regards getting help is:
1) Always prefer to ask the list for help (Reply All) rather than emailing individuals privately - the crowd of brains is always better than one, possibly crazy busy, person :-)
2) Don't be shy about asking. This community is very willing to help in general. We all were beginners at one time, although David Avendasora has been struggling for years to get past asking stupid questions ;-)
Yeah, there is one in every class.
3) Ask questions in as clear as possible a fashion.
e.g. not like David Avendasora :-P
4) Use latest Project Wonder from the start. It *will* make your life easier and it **will** allow you to learn by example by looking at WOComponents and source code in ERExtensions.
5) Buy Practical WebObjects and study chapters 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 ASAP to understand core concepts. Once you got concepts right in your brain, WebObjects is easy.
6) make sure you know basics of HTML, CSS, Java, Java Design Patterns (see Head First Design Patterns book) along with a sprinkling of unix CLI, _javascript_, ant, and a few other common technologies I cannot remember right now.
Study, code, try stuff, study, code, try stuff, etc.

Once you get your head around concepts of WO, it is easy - and, by all accounts, it is apparently more productive and more powerful than many of the popular java web enterprise frameworks.
The development tools have progressed madly (in a good way) for many years, hence why it is easy to find out of date documentation when it comes to development tools.
Any documentation related to WebObjects frameworks themselves (from a Java perspective) will be pretty accurate since progress on the framework side of things has been taking place in Project Wonder (large open source frameworks that extend the functionality of the core WebObjects frameworks)
Practical WebObjects (search Amazon) is probably the best book out there, but it is geared
towards intermediate users rather than beginners. Nevertheless, it teaches you the ESSENTIAL concepts that will help you blow past the initial WebObjects learning curve.
So, focus on the screencasts and the wiki and don't be shy to ask for help here on this mailing list. (yes, this is *THE* mailing list for WebObjects)
