I had been looking at the WOWODC information and it is enticing. However, I just attended a trade show in Vegas this month, so I don't think a trip to Montreal that soon is likely. Too bad, I bet it's beautiful that time of year. If I can be of any help in regards to a tutorial, let me know. Perhaps I should start taking notes of issues and areas that seem to be lacking in organized help.

Then you have selected an excellent technology for you needs. It will be a struggle at first, but there is a significant payoff.
If you want, I strongly urge you to come to WOWODC in Montreal at the beginning of July. It is an "all stuff, no fluff" kind of conference and really, really worth attending. Montreal is also a very enjoyable city if you have a family that you want to bring along, several of us make it into a family vacation. http://www.wocommunity.org/wowodc11/
There have been many discussions over the last year about the need for a WebObjects tutorial. Having the perspective of someone new to the technology, you may be interested in helping drive this forward.

While we are always happy to have newcomers, I will point out that WebObjects is not the right solution for all situations. It is a tool intended for professional developers to make robust web applications backed by a
database. It is truly awe inspiring to see how quickly someone skilled in WO and Direct to Web (D2W) can build out an application. People talk of building a fully functional proof of concept app during a requirements gathering meeting. Getting to that level of skill can take a lot of time and effort and the learning curve probably feels more like an over hanging cliff. If your needs are simple and your goal is to get results quickly, then another technology may be more suitable. Lift could be worth looking at, http://liftweb.net/.
Regardless of which direction you decide to take, welcome to The List.

I took a java programming class years ago. I did not continue with it. Since then, my only programming experience has been with Realbasic, and that too was years ago. Now, I've decided to jump into webobjects. I have eclipse and WO 543 on intel mac. I can run a simple "hello world" program.
I find myself stuck. The instructions say: "So, to add a variable to keep track of our visitors name, click on the 'Interface' menu bar item and select 'Add Key...'."
I have no "interface menu bar item". I can't
find it anywhere, nor can I find any instructions on how to add a variable. Do I just type it in? Is there a resource for total newbs using current WO implementation, or is it an 'idiots need not apply' type of thing?
If this is the wrong
mailing list, my apologies.
Thanks,
