While he and I know WebObjects quite well, I think it's safe to say there are only few people here in Germany who know it at all. I'm personally convinced (and have seen this affirmed by the two WOWODC talks about Lean Startup and Fluffy Bunny, excellent talks by the way) that WO itself is a great technology to get things up and running very fast. However, what if the business grows and he needs to hire more people?

It's harder, especially since 2008... If they search for WebObjects on Google, they will find legacy documentation, stupid comments people make about the Apple Store being down because of WO, etc. That's not helping... At least wocommunity.org is usually in the top 5 of the search listings.

I would say 1.5 months.

As long as it's not PHP (which I call the VisualBasic for the Web) :-) I guess it's all depends on the "quality" of developers you want to have. People who are willing to learn WO for a job are either people who are curious and want to learn something they don't already know, or are people who just want to get a job. People who choose a job because of buzzwords or "because it's what the industry use", that's not the kind of person I would hire, especially not for a startup.
But yes, we need to do something to get fresh blood. We are thinking of doing a two hours "Get to know WO" the Sunday before WWDC in SF so that iOS people can see Project Wonder, especially ERRest in action. I'm also trying to do two Project Wonder presentations at Confoo (local general Web conference, confoo.ca). We need more actions like this. _______________________________________________
