convert pdf to tiff?

I am starting the process of learning ERAttachments. Of course, if I upload a pdf, I only get a file icon. So I thought I would convert the pdf to a tiff (using some compression stuff) and use this as the preview.
So now is the time to start learning more stuff. I am googling on converting pdf to tiff and I find some stuff that doesn't appear too bad (read too difficult for me to understand and implement). But I thought I would ask.
Is there a Property to do this? :-) or a Wonder way?
