Thanks so much, that is really great. I am definitely poking around MooTools and will let you know what I find. I'll contribute whatever I can as well.

I also found that if I invoke a MTAjaxModalContainer from my pure css drop menus, the dialog is automatically dismissed as soon as I move my mouse pointer off the menu. It's probably just a css conflict that I'll have to ferret out.
