I use the stock OS X install for development.

Since they offer a MySQL database standalone server that will enable our system to grow up as needed, what would you recommend, to keep MySQL or move to Frontbase? I had worked with Frontbase in the past and like it a lot, it seems more solid than MySQL to me, but MySQL is the database choice for Rackspace, so I am in doubt.

MySQL is used by PHP and a lot of other users so it makes sense for Rackspace. That does not mean it is better in general or better for you. Personally, I like the ease of FrontBase. I am unsure what running that on a Rackspace server would entail.

The older version is more likely to be stable.

The older version is more likely to be stable. If I were you, my goal would be stable.

Yes, it is supposed to just work, but my experience is that if you are installing something, and downloading and listening to Mahler's Symphony #2 at the same time you are rendering the movie of your family trip to Venice, nothing gets installed correctly and the Violas will miss their entrance in the resurrection.
