I have used both apache rewrite rules for this as well as RedirectMatch directives. In current deployments I use the latter but that might not work in all situations.

I have s'thg like this in my (port 80 insecure) apache conf. For "appname" (and assuming you're using Wonder's url rewriting):

RedirectMatch 301 /appname https://apps.gseis.ucla.edu/appname$1

Of course, a port 443 conf file exists for the target and and virtual site.
