For really good UI, you will need to do good storyboarding to determine what type of elements you want to use. Drag and drop? Accordians? Lightboxes? Bootstrap.js responsive designs, etc.
At least that is what I try to do and do work with a designer who understands responsive designs and various modern widgets.
