I would like to use either XWin32 or Cygwin/XFree86 to get into OSX the same
way as I get into my Red Hat 7.2 box from Windows 2000.
So far, using xdm on OSX, I have only been successful in "hard wiring" the
W2K system as if it were an X-terminal by using the following line in
/etc/X11/xdm/Xservers:
192.168.0.1:0 foreign
However, this is both insecure and inconvenient. How to set up xdm on OS X
so that you can get a chooser entry at the remote system in the usual way?
If I try to set up OSX's xdm's Xaccess to file to "*" or "* CHOOSER
BROADCAST" as I would normally do, then query or broadcast from XWin32
results in log messages like this:
835: 1021/0x3fd.<@@@conn>AllocNewConnection(0xf73ebc) ncon=10; cli=9>
836: 25165845/0x1800015.<@@@auth>CheckAuthorization(,'',0,,,)>
837: 9962392/0x980398.<@@@access>InvalidHost(,16): AE=1, 0x400a8c0>
Why does xdm on OSX think that the Windows box is an invalid host, and how
to fix that? I have set up the W2K machine's entry correctly in NetInfo,
so that I can ping it from OSX by name, for example. Is this really an ssh
setup problem? How can I check that out?
I am running XFree86 4.2.1.1 on the Mac, installed on top of X11.app
fromPublic Beta 3. This is a higher level which includes some xdm fixes.
Everythign else sesm to work as it should.
I am able to get a Red Hat desktop on OSX using "ssh-agent
X -quartz -broadcast -once", as discussed here, and so I figure that from
Cygwin I should be able to use:
/bin/ssh-agent.exe /usr/X11R6/bin/Xwin.exe -query 192.168.0.4
However, nothing shows.
Any ideas?
