I am running RedHat 8.0 on a machine here, and I can not get this to
work either.
Using:
ssh -X <RH_machine_IP>
does give me a terminal session on the RH box, just like using a
regular ssh would, but I can't launch any applications like xeyes,
xterm, etc. I know I can do this because I can connect to some boxes
at school using ssh -X and start xeyes, or even Matlab, but it doesn't
work for my Redhat box.
I figure there must be something I have to setup in Redhat that I just
don't know about.
Sorry I messed up the first post.

you dont need to startx, all you have to do is run the app you want...

if you're looking to do something like see what you would see if you
were sitting at the redhat machine, you would need something like
vnc.....
thanks.
I'll give that a try.
