Could you help me understand what is going wrong. I looks like it is
getting an X connection fine, but it gives me some weird error.
I tried opening the connection form xTerm in Apple's X11. The
following is the output right after I enter my password.
debug1: ssh-userauth2 successful: method password
debug1: channel 0: new [client-session]
debug1: send channel open 0
debug1: Entering interactive session.
debug1: ssh_session2_setup: id 0
debug1: channel request 0: pty-req
debug1: Requesting X11 forwarding with authentication spoofing.
debug1: channel request 0: x11-req
debug1: channel request 0: shell
debug1: fd 3 setting TCP_NODELAY
debug1: channel 0: open confirm rwindow 0 rmax 32768

_X11TransSocketINETConnect: Can't get address for localhost
Error: Can't open display: localhost:11.0
[josh@Linux josh]$
How do I get the address for localhost?
Thanks.

I am running RedHat 8.0 on a machine here, and I can not get this to
work either.
Using:
ssh -X <RH_machine_IP>
does give me a terminal session on the RH box, just like using a
regular ssh would, but I can't launch any applications like xeyes,
xterm, etc. I know I can do this because I can connect to some boxes
at school using ssh -X and start xeyes, or even Matlab, but it doesn't
work for my Redhat box.
Try using the -v option to ssh. It prints out lots of info about what
it's doing, and this might give you some idea why the X tunnelling
isn't
working.
