Hi Everyone,
I've been using XFree on OS X for quite some time now. But I'm not
using Apple's X11 as I track the cvs on xfree86.org.
Is there any way to install and configure the Aqua-based window
manager that Apple is using independantly of the whole X11
distribution?
You could install Apple's window manager, but it would likely not be
entirely happen with the currently XFree86 X server. The way to
install would be to do a complete install of X11 for Mac OS X and then
to overwrite it with an install of XFree86. This will leave Apple's
window manager but replace most other stuff.
The problem is that Apple's window manager relies on some extensions
to XFree86. It may not fail gracefully without these extensions. We
are currently working on including Apple's X11 code in XFree86. These
extensions will then be present and Apple's window manager should work
correctly with either Apple's or XFree86's window server. (These
extensions will also be documented for any third parties who want to
try writing their own window manager.)
