glxgears partially covered by the menu or any other X window
1425 frames in 5.0 seconds = 285.000 FPS
1456 frames in 5.0 seconds = 291.200 FPS
1440 frames in 5.0 seconds = 288.000 FPS
glxgears seems to run smoother if partially covered by finder
1709 frames in 5.0 seconds = 341.800 FPS
1722 frames in 5.0 seconds = 344.400 FPS
1739 frames in 5.0 seconds = 347.800 FPS
1708 frames in 5.0 seconds = 341.600 FPS
1740 frames in 5.0 seconds = 348.000 FPS
glxgears totally covered by an X app (xterm)
12000 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2400.000 FPS
12097 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2419.400 FPS
12180 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2436.000 FPS

glxgears totally covered by finder
