I've been following posts on the "X11 1.0 & KDE Keyboard mapping issue"
thread, and I'm wondering if I'm seeing a related issue with Xnest.
I use Xnest under Apple's X11 Public Beta 3 to connect to gdm on two
different Linux boxes:
Xnest -query 192.168.1.30 :1 (RedHat Linux 8.0)
Xnest -query 192.168.1.40 :2 (RedHat Linux 7.2)
The gdmlogin prompt comes up for both boxes, but it only usable for the
RedHat 7.2 box (I can log in and get to my GNOME destop). On the RedHat
8.0 box, the user name entry interprets "l" (lower case L), "s" and "d"
as if they were prefaced by a META character, which prevents me from
entering correct account names. Upper case characters ("L", "S" and
"D") don't seem to be affected.
I don't exerience this issue against the RedHat 8.0 box if I use
Xquartz from a (non-X) terminal:
Xquartz -query 192.168.1.30
Is the META-prefix a keyboard mapping issue, or possibly an Xnest or
X11 bug? TIA.
