   Fink

   Fink Commander

Fink is the standard way to install various packages that you will likely want under X11. Once you install something using Fink, you will get the /sw directory. It is where Fink places all of it's stuff so it does not overwrite anything else. I would not recommend installing things in any other way for X11 usage.

Unless your system is seriously messed up, you do have a /bin directory.

And while you probably don't have a /user directory, you do also have a /usr directory.
