X11 will not launch

Hello,
I am attempting to launch X11, it used to work. It doesn't anymore. I
updated to the latest version, same issue. This is the message in the
console, does not appear a crash log is being generated:
XFree86 Version 4.2.1 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
Release Date: 3 September 2002
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your hardware is

As far as "Make sure an X server isn't already running" best i can tell
I have lots of "zombie" X11 processes using "ps":

I have thrown out the X11 preference and not sure what path I should
take. Any insights?
