X11 Preferences window won't open

hello, "all of a sudden" the X11->Preferences panel won't open any
longer. It used to.
I click on Preferences, and nothing happens.
I believe last time I used it was before the upgrade to 0.2. After the
upgrade, it's been a week already, everything works smoothly, so the
problem may not be related to that, althugh i can't think of what i may
have done to screw Preferences up.
any hint at what could be wrong, or where to check?
