I asked a similar question twice, thinking that there was some way to
fool X11.app or SOMETHING to think that the top 22 pixels of the
display don't exist, but received nary a response.
I assume that it's either impossible, nobody knows, or else it's so
impossibly basic that you and I are the only ones missing it.

If you start gnome2 under using MAC X11.app with quartz-wm then you
have the top menu panel visible just under the mac menu panel - which

If you start gnome2 with metacity/sawfish then the top menu panel is
hidden under the OSX menu panel which isn't what you want.
I thought I could .xintrc
exec quartz-wm --only-proxy &
exec gnome-session &
but that didn't work
Anyone come across this problem and solved it.
I like to have all my x apps using sawfish and all my mac apps using
quartz, it's just what I'm used to.
