Hi,
Apparently one of the main preoccupations of non-US users of X11.app is
the inability to use their keyboard (key mapping, accented keys, Alt
key, Del). Same with me (French).
A solution is given in the FAQ, several users also posted solutions.
Some use optional arguments to x11, some use environment variables,
some use xmodmap, others a file .xinitrc. I'm not a Unix or X11 person
(my main motivation so far for installing X11 is to use
OpenOffice.org), I find this all very confusing. I just tried the
launcher application mentioned a couple of posts ago, it doesn't work
for me: 7-bit characters are as they should on a French keyboard, 8-bit
characters (accents etc.) aren't.
Thus my suggestion: if somebody Unix-knowledgeable has the time to
write detailed instructions on what to do for X11.app, upon
double-clicking, to be launched configured exactly as it should (key
mapping, Alt key etc.) for a given non-US keyboard (what initialisation
file to create, where, what to put - line by line - in this file), that
would be absolutely great!
