I switched to the much, much faster X11 release from XDarwin. My
.xinitrc execs window maker as its last step. Window Maker starts a few
docklings (a clock, an xload, etc.).
When I quit wmaker from an XDarwin session, all of the children go away
and the session exits, as one would expect.
When I quit wmaker from an X11 (Apple's), the window manager goes away,
but the docklings persist on their own. Doing a pstree, it seems that
they are reparented to the init process. It almost seems as if these
children are NOHUP'd.
Swithing back and forth between X11 (Apple's) and XDarwin, this is
completely reproducible. I'll assert that Apple's behavior is
incorrect, as I have never seen this with any other window manager/X
server combination before.
Is there a way to alter my .xinitrc to recreate the traditional
behavior?
Also, thanks to Greg Parker for the xroot tool -- I can now access the
root window menus again!
Cheers,
David
