Hi everyone,
I'm an experienced fink user, and I've got two computers (both updated
to very latest system version 10.2.3). On both of them, I successfully
replaced the fink-provided xfree86 with Apple's X11. I also update my
fink installation on a daily basis, and none of my unix-applications
are non-fink ones. The two computers are:
A) Dual G4/450 with a Radeon card (the one Apple offered as a
built-to-order option)
B) G4/400 Gigabit with a Rage card (the one installed by default in my
machine).
I use pymol for my work, so the issue below is not minor to me.
On computer A, pymol works beautifully under Apple's X11. Just before
pymol's display window (PyMOL Viewer) appears, you can see this in the
console:
---
OpenGL based graphics front end:
GL_VENDOR: ATI Technologies Inc.
GL_RENDERER: ATI Radeon OpenGL Engine
GL_VERSION: 1.3 ATI-1.2.8
---
However, on computer B, this display window appears as a perfect white.
Nothing shows up in it. Here is what I get just before the PyMOL Viewer
window pops up:
---
OpenGL based graphics front end:
GL_VENDOR: ATI Technologies Inc.
GL_RENDERER: ATi Rage 128 Pro OpenGL Engine
GL_VERSION: 1.1 ATI-1.2.8
kCGErrorIllegalArgument : CGSSetWindowSendExposed

So, I went drastic and completely removed fink from computer B.
Afterwards, I freshly installed fink again, selfupdate-cvs'ed it and
installed system-xfree86 4.2-5. Of course, I had both the USR and the
SDK packages for X11 already installed, along with the Dec. 2002 Dev.
Tools.
And immediately, I ordered a "fink install pymol", so that pymol and
its dependencies were the only packages installed. After a long time,
everything compiled beautifully and I proceded to start up pymol again,
in the hope that the problem was probably gone.
But it didn't work. The same problem is still here. Do you have any
clues as to what is the cause for this? I think it might be a bug with
the OpenGL engine for my particular graphic card. Could it be?
Thanks in advance,
Ramiro Tillez Sanz
