X PATH variable

I tried to add gv to the X11's Application menu.
When gv is opened by its menuitem, it just can't open any file. It seems
it doesn't find gs because it doesn't look in /sw.

I tried to source /sw/bin/init.sh in .xinitrc to have a complete PATH
variable without success.
The only solution is to launch gv from a terminal because the terminal
has a complete PATH variable.

Any idea on how to have a complete *global* PATH variable ?
