Yes, you can absolutely install the together. I switch back and forth
arbitrarily between X11 and Xdarwin. Granted, they cannot both be running at
the same time; however, you can have them both installed concurrently.
The procedure I followed:
1) Installed XDarwin 4.0.2.1 nearly a year or more ago and had applied
all necessary updates.
2) Overlaid X11SDKForMacOSX.pkg first, X11UserForMacOSX.mpkg second and
openMotif.pkg third.
3) Voila, it all worked.
Your mileage may, of course, vary; however, it was pretty hassle free for
me.
