gnuplot and aquaterm

Hello all,
I installed apple's X and then got gnuplot via fink. this gnuplot
seems to be bundled with aquaterm. if i type 'gnuplot' in terminal
aquaterm launches and i get the msg 'terminal set to aqua'. gnuplot
then displays via aquaterm, which is nice, but i want to have control
and use apple X if i want. if in gnuplot i type 'set term x11', even
with apple X open, it doesn't work.
OTOH, if i type 'gnuplot' in an xterm launched from apple X, terrminal
is set to x11 and gnuplot uses the quartz window manager.
so my question is: how can i launch gnuplot from terminal and have it
behave the same way as from an xterm, ie, avoiding aquaterm and using
apple's window manager?
TIA
Tom
