Well, one thing that I love about xterm (and its derivatives) is the
ability to rebind all of my keys.  I can change fonts using the function
keys, have "clear" and "make" bound to others, and scroll up and down
without touching the keyboard.

In fact, I'd go so far as to rewrite your sentence: Terminal.app is really
a very primitive application with virtually no ability to customize the
user experience.

When you give me xterm's level of customizability in Terminal.app, come
back and we'll talk.  :-)
