Check out today's slashdot news:

Bitstream donates 10 high-quality fonts to OpenSource.
Yep, and one of them is monospace, too, which is nice. And it's
really good to see someone being kind enough to do something about
the woeful lack of good standard fonts for X.
I've tried a number of monospace Bitstream fonts (monospace 821,
letter gothic 12 pitch, prestige 10 pitch, and a couple of others)
and on the whole, they're very good for some tasks but tend to look
awful when rendered small without antialiasing (this could be a
hinting issue, but at the same time, scalable fonts aren't really
designed to be used like this).
It's for this reason that I like bitmap fonts for terminal applications.
In fact, if anyone knows how to convert pcf/bdf fonts to something that
OSX can use, I'd be very happy to hear about it. I have a partial
solution for converting postscript fonts to opentype, but in general,
passing fonts backwards and forwards between Linux and OSX has been
a real headache, and I haven't been able to convert bitmap fonts at
all.
Toby.
