openDX unable to use GL

I am running openDX (www.opendx.org), a large scientific visualization
package. Using XDarwin and OroborOSX, it can successfully render into
a 'hardware rendering' window, using GL calls. Under Apple X11-beta
this operation fails, with the console logging the following:

I am running a freshly installed 10.2.3 and X11-beta on a dual G4/500
with 1 GB RAM, with the display in 1280x1024/millions.
Any thoughts?
