From the article mentioning this I searched and found another one
telling how to call a shell script from the graphical login. Don't have
my Mac here, but in some getty file (/etc/ttys ?) there is a console
entry where you can add -Loginhook -Logouthook or some such. So that
should be the way to call the one and only env setting script.

Sorry for not being more specific right now, but either search yourself
or wait for me posting that bookmark.
