Perhaps I was just lucky, but I simply installed X11 over XDarwin,
changed the XDarwin display to 1, and altered .xinitrc
(essentially) thusly:
. ~/.profile
Could you tell me what do you have in .profile?
Certainly, it's nothing fancy nor pretty (I use bash). I'm not even
sure ENV is required, this is a hold-over from ksh days:
I'm using tcsh (because I don't know anything about bash, and even
about tcsh I know very few) and all my initialization is in
~/Library/init/tcsh.
From what I see in your .profile, it's basically the same as what I
have in ~/Library/init/tcsh. Is .profile specific to bash or can I
use it? And how could it interfere with my other initialization? (I
have only .cshrc in ~/HOME - no .login, no .logout, no .tcshrc, no
Xmodmap ).
I'm not the proper person to ask all these questions, there are more
knowledgeable folks on this list. ~/.profile is a executed upon login
for ksh - for bash the analogous file is ~/.bash_profile. Perhaps
others will fill-in tcsh specifics.
