[Trying again... previous one was too long and required approval]
Continuing with my "Linux-ization" of my Apple laptops I have been
playing with the configuration of the keyboard under X11.
In case anybody is interested... I have created 2 xmodmap files for
the powerbook 17" and for the ibook 12" (white one), 'fixing' some of
the 'deficiencies' of the keyboards in the default configuration.
The main features of them are:
For both:
* The "enter" key becomes a right-alt
* The "option" key becomes a left-alt, both keys are declared as modifiers
(mozilla now works using these alt keys and the arrows, you can browse
the web with just one hand!)
* For the 17" PB:
F11 and F12 are PgUp and PgDown, respectively.
* For the ibook:
F10 and F11 are PgUp and PgDown respectively (F12 is the eject button,
and I decided not to mess with it). Now you can pgup and pgdown with
one hand!
BTW, I learnt that the left apple and right APPLE, the left and right
shift generate EXACTLY the same key corresponding events. That is bad
news, since that means they cannot be configured differently. Is that
an apple X11 implentation of the keyboard driver bug? it would be nice
to be able to define in a different way.
The tar file contains the 2 files.
[demime 0.98b removed an attachment of type application/octet-stream which had a name of xmod.tar.gz]
