I have already done this (in order to get rxvt to run properly at
startup), and I still have the same problems.

Yep. See my post on the rxvt thread. You need to put:
. /sw/bin/init.sh
in your /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc file.

Is it possible to set up the menu items in QuartzWM so that full
pathnames are not required? Is it possible to make this menu see more
of my path (which includes my "/sw/bin/" directory)?
For example, right now, in order to run LyX from the menu, I have to
use "/sw/bin/lyx" or "xterm -e /sw/bin/lyx" to get it to run. There
is
a problem, however: the path doesn't seem to be setup when I start it
like this and I can't compile my LaTeX code (the xterm reports "sh:
latex: command not found"). If I type the same command ("xterm -e
/sw/bin/lyx" or "xterm -e lyx") into an xterm or rxvt directly, then
it
works fine.
Thanks,
Peter.
