Based on what you've told us recently about problems with XEmacs and
ProofGeneral, I think you might be able to get a better handle on what
your
errors are if you asked the folks on comp.emacs.xemacs (newsgroup) and
email@hidden if anyone else is using ProofGeneral and has a
setup
similar to yours.
The number of ProofGeneral users must be tiny. Surely the main point
is that just clicking on the toolbar causes XEmacs to hang?
Incidentally, somebody else is having identical problems. He has gone
to even more trouble than I to fix it. I attach part of a message sent

summary:
I was having the exact same problems (X_createGC etc.)
with xemacs on the new x11 beta (my sytem: g3 600mhz
ibook). I reinstalled everything (x11, sdk, fink, and
the fink xemacs, system-xfree86, and xemacs-sumo-pkg
binaries) and now I get this:
dyld: xemacs version mismatch for library:
/usr/lib/libncurses.5.dylib (compatibility version of
user: 6.0.0 greater than library's version: 5.0.0)
[1] Trace/BPT trap xemacs
I note that the install of X11 created the following
symlink:
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 18 Apr 7 14:19
libncurses.dylib -> libncurses.5.dylib
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 278844 Feb 26 12:53
libncurses.5.dylib
My os is 10.2.4 upgraded from 10.1. My guess is that
somthing is wrong with /usr/lib because of that? I
have installed everything on a friend's new g4 laptop
and had no problems. However I did note that when
installing on his system, fink picked up
xfree86-base-shlib (4.2.1.1-3). and this was not
automatically installed on my system (!?)
What should /usr/lib look like and how can I fix it?
Why doesn't fink pick up xfree86-base-shlibs? Any
ideas? Thanks!

Details:
I removed all of /sw and all of the files listed
by apple as X11 files on
http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1232.html:
Q: Where are things installed?
A: In /Applications/X11.app, /usr/X11R6, and
/usr/bin/open-x11. If you have an existing /etc/X11 it
is backed up during installation and a new one is
installed.
Symlinks are also added at /usr/include/X11 and
/usr/lib/X11.
(I found no /usr/include/X11 and did nothing to
/usr/lib/X11). I removed everything else (including
/etc/X11). I moved aside all .[xX] files in my home
directory and also open-x11.
I reinstalled X11 beta 3 and the SDK and then
installed fink 0.5.1, and the binaries for
xfree86-system and xemacs and xemacs-sumo-pkg.
