Ah, I am used to this sort of thing being in a file called '.xsession'.
Still, I don't have any file called '.xinitrc' on my system :
[dhekelia:/] maxw% sudo find / -name .xinitrc
Password:
[dhekelia:/] maxw%
Any other ideas? Thanks for the help...

edit your .xinitrc file (just at the root of your user folder) with Pico
for instance and you should
find a line that execute Gimp
