That turns out to be a link to an xinitrc in the bowels of the X11 app directory. I found and used it as an example to start creating my own $HOME/.xinitrc
Part of the experimentation involved placing an echo in Apple's xinitrc - the system-wide one. It redirects a message into a log file I keep for such things.
I have yet to see an entry in the log file even with my own .xinitrc disabled.
Yeah. I should try again with a new release but I am pretty much convinced that the system-wide stuff is done in code rather than in any shell script.. It would be nice to have my test confirmed by someone else.
