Can anyone out there tell me how I can make filenames case-sensitive?
You can't. Search the darwin-development archives for ad nauseum
discussions of this issue.
This is not really X11 since this happens in Terminal.app too. I am
completely flabbergasted. I have used OSX for a long time and never
noticed this odd behaviour before. Did I change something or did OSX
change? I am using 10.2.4.\
Nothing has changed since the early days of Mac OS (1985). That's the
default Macintosh file system (now called HFS+). It's case
insensitive, case-preserving.
I can even cd to 'newfolder' and still get to 'NewFolder'. Wow! I must
have been asleep.
They are the same as far as the file system is concerned.
If you really want case sensitivity, create a UFS file system (e.g., on
a separate partition or as a disk image; the utilities DiskUtility
(partion on a real disk) or DiskCopy (disk image) will do the job). I
don't recommend making your root file system UFS.

Justin
