Can anyone out there tell me how I can make filenames case-sensitive?
This is not really X11 since this happens in Terminal.app too. I am
completely flabbergasted. I have used OSX for a long time and never
noticed this odd behaviour before. Did I change something or did OSX
change? I am using 10.2.4.
localhost 11> ls
NewFolder/
localhost 12> mkdir newfolder
mkdir: newfolder: File exists
I can even cd to 'newfolder' and still get to 'NewFolder'. Wow! I must
have been asleep.
If there is a better place to ask this, I would be happy to oblige.
My experience using a SGI system when accessing NT server (names not
case sensitive) was commands would act upon files on the NT box
regardless of case . The HFS file system used by the Mac OS X is not
case sensitive. This behavior is normal. Formatting with Apple's Disk
Utility as UNIX File System will make items on the disk case sensitive
in Terminal (disk will not mount under System 9)
