Thanks, Tim for an interesting view. Many solid points.
On the other hand, some have identified IDL as a key app that just
breaks with 0.3. Haroon Sheikh has asked for particulars, and he
has got them, so I assume that development will go on. Since so
(too) many vendors have chosen to "migrate" to OSX by just porting
an X11 version, I do not think that X11 is a luxury. We can either
maintain the fiction that there are lots and lots of apps for OSX, or
say that X11 is beta and "oh, by the way, you should not use it unless
you are prepared for it to break".
I am very happy with OSX (except for the never-ending wireless
connection bug) and really wish it the best. I am trying to pretend
that it works, so please excuse me if I stay with 0.2 until 0.3 works
with my critical apps.

Well, I don't see any major reason to upgrade, other than if we don't
upgrade, Apple won't know what needs fixing. At the end of the day, we
are participating in a beta programme, and the whole point of such
programmes is to aid Apple in the development work, not just to get an
X
server for free.
I've been using the upgrade since the day it came out, and have not had
any major problems with it. The problems with the mouse on extended
desktops are much improved, but not completely gone, but I haven't
filed
a bug report with Apple yet because I can't reproduce the issue
reliably
yet.
Other than that, I haven't met with any problems, although the number
of
X clients I use is fairly small; principally Fink's gnome-terminal
installed locally and remote emacs sessions through ssh connections.
I have problems with gnome-terminal not re-drawing correctly
occasionally (and it also occasionally is unable to open new windows,
citing a pty problem) but I have not yet established whether that is
just gnome-terminal being buggy or whether it is Apple's X server. I
suspect it's gnome-terminal.
