I am running an xemacs that I compiled from source from xemacs.org,
following generic unix instructions,
that I compiled when Darwin first came out and have not updated.
Perhaps a new make would
be in order? But then why does it work fine on my TiBook, using the
same binaries?
Anyway I can't find any file with "xaw3d" in it on my machine.
Here is what I get with otool; anything I should be concerned with?
otool -L /usr/local/bin/xemacs
/usr/local/bin/xemacs:
/usr/lib/libz.1.1.3.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current
version 1.1.3)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.4.dylib (compatibility version 4.11.0,
current version 4.11.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXmu.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.2.0,
current version 6.2.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.0.0,
current version 6.0.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.4.0,
current version 6.4.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.2.0,
current version 6.2.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.0.0,
current version 6.0.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.3.0,
current version 6.3.0)
/usr/lib/libdl.0.dylib (compatibility version 0.0.0, current
version 0.0.0)
/usr/lib/libncurses.5.dylib (compatibility version 5.0.0,
current version 5.0.0)
/System/Library/Frameworks/LDAP.framework/Versions/A/LDAP
(compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 2.0.0)
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0,
current version 60.2.0)
AND
otool -L /usr/local/bin/xfce
/usr/local/bin/xfce:
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.4.dylib (compatibility version 4.11.0,
current version 4.11.0)
/usr/lib/libdl.0.dylib (compatibility version 0.0.0, current
version 0.0.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.4.0,
current version 6.4.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.2.0,
current version 6.2.0)
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0,
current version 61.0.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.0.0,
current version 6.0.0)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.3.0,
current version 6.3.0)
Thanks for your responses..

What IS xaw3d? I don't seem to have such a thing.
It is the 3D version of the Athena widget set. It gives you buttons
and boxes with 3D appearance. It is used when you compile xemacs with
the config options
--with-widgets=athena --with-athena=3d
This is the case for xemacs from fink, for example.
libXaw3d.dylib is very tightly integrated with the X11 libs which
implies in my experience that it gets broken by even minor changes in
the xfree86 version. I had to recompile it several times in the past,
once because of symptoms similar to what you are describing.
There may be other libraries with similar behavior. Does "otool -L
`which xemacs`" (thanks, Paul ;-) ) or the same for xfce show you
other libraries that were not updated since the latest change of X11?
Theoretically, the update of the OpenGL framework in 10.2.6 may have
broken things, but I cannot quite see how it can produce such an
effect on xemacs.
