I find the environments are different enough (OSX vs X11) that, since I
can choose the window manager, I might as well choose one that actually
provides access to some of the marvelous X11 functionality.
Being able to have virtual desktops is an extremely nice feature of
some window managers. I found in my limited testing, that Enlightenment
provides the most flexible and fluid virtual desktop experience.
Simply drag X apps between virtual desktops, or use the alternate click
to choose where to send the app.
I have access to a pseudo "rooted" environment even though it's
"rootless" (terminology?..)
So, I can have several terminal sessions running on one desktop space,
while OpenOffice is running in another desktop space, and the GIMP in
yet another. Switching between virtual desktop spaces is darned easy
either just going to, or as I said, moving applications between...
This is free functionality I'd love to see rolled into OSX it's self. :)

Subject: why run any window manager?
Hello,
I have a personal question to ask: why run /any/ window manager under
X11? For
me the beauty of the whole idea is to mingle X11 apps with Aqua apps.
It would
seem very confusing to me to shift mental gears for window manager
issues when
inside or outside of Aqua. What is the big advantage I am missing here?
Thanks,
Elwood
