Could you kill these processes with a segmentation fault? SIG_SEGV, ie.
11? I've managed to trick
programs into core dumping by sending them that signal before. Perhaps
that would work?

If they were spawned after login, then simply logging out will fix some
of them (most notably X11, which leaves a zombie every time you quit.)
