Hello:
I'm new to this list, so if this topic has been beaten to death, please
forgive me.
I've installed the X11 Beta 3 on a Mac OS X 10.2.8 system (dual G5)
along with Mathworks' Matlab 6.5. Mathworks supplies the straight
XFree.org X11 with Oroborosx, but I didn't bother installing them
figuring that X11 is X11. After hacking the lauchMATLAB.app to run
matlab without assuming that oroborosx is installed, Matlab would run,
but plots didn't work correctly. For example, by running the 3-D plots
demo, none of the plots would appear unless I first minimized then
restored the plot window. The rotation functionality of the plots
didn't work either. The "cube" that represents the rotating plot would
not appear so there was no way of knowing how much one was rotating the
plot. Also, performance was horrible. For example, when rotating a
fairly complex wireframe of a jet plane that we have, there was a lag
of almost a minute before the plot was re-drawn. This rotation on
other far less capable computers would take much less time.
Are there any ways to improve this situation? I would rather run
Apple's X11 because I assume they know how to best integrate it with
the Quartz native environment. Any insight/advice/comments would be
greatly appreciated.
