Hi Matt,
The version of emacs that ships with MacOS doesn't have X support
compiled into it -- you just missed a thread that discussed why this is
the case, check the archives if you're interested. But, you can use fink
to get a version that *does* have X support (or compile it yourself if
you prefer).
