| do Mach. OS X has a Mach kernel that weds the traditional microkernel

Not only that, but the BSD license doesn't require you to open
modifications to the code, only to give credit to those your code is
based on (the 'advertising clause') so there's no reason Apple would be
required to give you the source. It's nice that they did, but there's
no obligation to give it to you.
