IDL/Mac X11 issues

I know this is marginally off-topic, but the developer of the application claims its a Mac X11 issue and I know some people here use IDL, so here goes:

I am trying to use the IDL Virtual Machine v6.1 on my Mac setup and I get the following error:

IDLGRSRCDEST::DRAW; Unable to acquire device context. Please consult the supplier of the application.

I know what a device context is, but since everything is wrapped in the IDL VM, I doubt there is a way I can fix it unless someone has some ideas I can pass on to the developer or anything I can try. No informative messages appear in the window the application is started from or the console. This application works perfectly on the Windows machine.
