DarwinPorts and Fink

I'm a newbie to OSX world and would like to ask for a little advice.
I've been running OS9/YDL Linux on an old 7500 and got kinda addicted
to the *NIX environment. Recently got my mitts on a newsed B&W G3 that
I bought Panther for.
Via X11, I'm able to essentially run *NIX apps rootless (which beats
MOL hands down - Panther, Classic and *NIX all at the click of a
button - how cool is that?)
My quandary is thus. I've looked into Fink and Darwinports and just
wanted to toss a troll line out for opinions about the two DarwinPorts
appears to have the more up to date binaries, but is missing some utes
that Fink has.
Anyone care to get on their soapbox and opine?
Thanks, james
